Factors affecting the adoption intention of people in Ho Chi Minh city towards the central bank digital currency

Abstract

The advent of blockchain technology and its application in the financial system has sparked debates, especially arguments regarding the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Currently, there is no comprehensive research on people's behavior related to the adoption of CBDC. This study explored the factors affecting people's intention to adopt CBDC in Ho Chi Minh City. The results showed that the following factors: expected effort, social influence, and favorable conditions have positive impacts on individual trust. Meanwhile, the perceived risk has a negative impact on the individual trust. The study’s results also affirmed that trust has a direct impact on the intention of people to adopt CBDC. The study results provided important practical implications for promoting the application of CBDC in Vietnam.
