Opportunities and challenges for Vietnam’s pepper exports in the global market

Vietnam is the largest pepper producer in the world and Vietnamese pepper is consumed in 110 countries and territories. Vietnamese pepper accounts for 60 percent of the world’s total pepper exports. Vietnam has many pepper product types, such as black pepper, green pepper, white pepper, powdered pepper, pickled pepper, etc. According to the International Pepper Association (IPA), the global black pepper market will stand at a value of around US$ 4.184 billion by 2028 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.1% during the period 2022–2028. In addition, the recent emerging use of natural flavor enhancers has also fueled the growth of the global black pepper market. However, to sustainably affirm the position in the global market, Vietnam’s pepper industry will have to overcome many great challenges in the coming time.
