Young people’s awareness of the circular economy: A proposed model of influencing factors based on the KAB framework

Abstract

The circular economy (CE) represents a strategic direction for sustainable development, yet young people’s awareness of the circular economy remains insufficiently studied. This study proposes a theoretical model explaining the factors influencing young people’s circular economy awareness (CEA). Drawing on the Knowledge – Attitude - Behavior (KAB) framework, awareness is conceptualized as a multidimensional construct influenced by media, education, and personal values. Through a systematic literature review, the study develops a conceptual model and a set of hypotheses without conducting empirical testing. The integrated model proposes that all three factors positively influence circular economy awareness, thereby systematizing the theoretical foundations and providing a basis for future quantitative research and local policies aimed at promoting sustainable lifestyles.
