Big Data and artificial intelligence - The foundation for the development of Vietnamese commercial banks in the digital era

Abstract

Through the collection of primary and secondary data, this study is to find solutions for the application and development of Big data and artificial intelligence (AI) in the operation of Vietnamese commercial banks. The study finds out that AI is widely applied by commercial banks in Vietnam for reducing human errors, handling automated process, and supporting personalized services. Meanwhile, Big Data is mainly used for preventing frauds, supporting credit analysis and product cross-selling. Both AI and Big Data have impacts on the operation of commercial banks in Vietnam and their positive impacts are outweighed negative impacts. In which, the impact on the complexity of products and services, anti-fraud, and increased ATM operational efficiency are most appreciated. In addition, AI and Big Data also have impacts on behavioral monitoring, customer segmentation, increased accuracy in credit appraisal and risk management of the bank. Based on these findings, this study proposes some solutions for the development of these modern technologies in the operation of Vietnamese commercial banks.
