Abstract
This study quantitatively evaluates the impact of population growth (POG) and macroeconomic factors, including foreign direct investment (FDI), capital accumulation (K), labor force (LABO), inflation rate (INF), unemployment rate (UN), and urbanization rate (Urb), on economic growth (measured by the natural logarithm of GDP) in nine Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN). Using a Fixed Effects Model (FEM) on a balanced panel dataset of 162 observations from 2005 to 2022, the study successfully quantifies the influence of macroeconomic and demographic factors on GDP. The results show that the model explains 82.16% of GDP variation. Capital accumulation, urbanization, and population growth positively affect economic growth, while inflation and unemployment have significant negative effects. The labor force variable does not show a statistically significant impact. Based on these findings, the study proposes policy implications to support sustainable development, leverage the demographic dividend, and improve workforce quality in the region.
