Developing Vietnam’s rice export market to the European Union

Vietnam is one of the world’s leading rice exporters, exporting approximately 8 - 9 million tons annually to over 160 countries and territories. In recent years, rice exports to the European Union (EU) have grown rapidly but still account for less than 2% of total export value. Although the EU - Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has been in force for six years, rice exports to this market continue to face significant barriers and challenges. This study analyzes the current situation of Vietnam’s rice exports to the EU, identifies limitations, opportunities, and challenges, and proposes solutions to promote sustainable market development and enhance the value and position of Vietnam’s rice industry in the global market.
