The relationship between green finance, institutional quality, trade openness, and agricultural development in Vietnam

Abstract
This study analyzes the effects of green finance, institutional quality, trade openness, foreign direct investment, and natural resources on agricultural development in Vietnam during 2000 - 2022. Time-series data were examined using the fully modified ordinary least squares method after testing for long-term cointegration. The results show that green finance, trade openness, and foreign direct investment positively affect agricultural development. Trade openness has the strongest positive effect, reflecting the importance of export markets and specialization to Vietnam’s agricultural sector. In contrast, institutional quality and natural resources have negative effects. The negative institutional effect may indicate that reforms and compliance requirements have not yet translated into improved agricultural performance, while natural-resource dependence may reduce incentives for technological upgrading. The study proposes policy implications for expanding green finance, improving institutional effectiveness, attracting quality investment, and promoting sustainable agricultural growth.
