Determinants of sustainable textile and garment exports to the European Union: Evidence from a PLS-SEM analysis

Abstract
This study investigates the determinants of sustainable textile and garment exports to the European Union using a partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. The findings indicate that socio-environmental regulations, commitments to sustainable development, technological innovation, competitiveness, and human capital exert significant positive effects on sustainable export performance. In contrast, rules-of-origin requirements remain a substantial barrier. The results further highlight the supportive roles of mass media and corporate humanistic culture in enhancing awareness and fostering pro-sustainability practices within the industry. Overall, the study provides a robust analytical framework for understanding the drivers of sustainable exports in Vietnam’s textile and garment sector.
