Plastic-free tourism As A pathway to sustainable development

Plastic waste pollution has emerged as a pressing global challenge, with the tourism industry both significantly affected by its consequences and bearing considerable responsibility for reducing waste generation. In this context, plastic-free tourism has gained attention as an emerging approach that seeks to mitigate the environmental impacts of tourism while aligning with broader sustainable development goals. This study clarifies the concept of plastic-free tourism and examines its role in promoting environmental sustainability within the tourism sector. It further analyzes practical implementation experiences at selected destinations, highlighting operational models, stakeholder involvement, and environmental outcomes. Through this assessment, the study provides an integrated perspective on the contribution of plastic-free tourism to sustainable destination management amid growing environmental pressures.
