Current situation and solutions for the development of Vietnams animal feed industry in the context of international integration

Vietnam have singed many trade agreements which have brought both opportunities and challenges to domestic manufacturing industries including the animal feed industry. For example, after the Vietnam - European Union Trade Agreement (EVFTA) took effect on August 1, 2020, Vietnams livestock industry have to face an increasing competition from European products. Vietnam will exempt from duties on European forzen pork and processed food within 7 years from the effective date of the EVFTA while the import tax rate from 10 - 40 percent will be gradually reduced to 0 percent within 10 years. Although imported meat is quite cheap, most Vietnamese consumers still prefer fresh meat or domestically produced meat. This lowers the competitive pressure from the EVFTA on the domestic livestock industry. This study analyzes the opportunities and challenges facing Vietnams animal feed industry. The study also presents the current situation of the domestic animal feed industry to help the industry better respond to the new integration period.
