The trade-off between outreach goals and financial performance of microfinance institutions in Vietnam in the period 2012-2020
Published: July 31, 2026
Abstract
This study explores the trade-off between outreach goals and financial performance of microfinance institutions in Vietnam in the period 2012-2020. By using the proposed research model and hypotheses, and GLS estimation method, this study finds out evidence for the trade-off of microfinance institutions between their outreach goals and financial performance. The study also finds out that the factors of management efficiency, average loan balance and GDP growth negatively affect the financial performance of microfinance institutions. Based on the study’s results, some recommendations are made to the state management units and microfinance institutions in Vietnam.
