Evaluating the effectiveness of ASEAN countries' response policies on controlling the COVID-19 pandemic
Published: July 30, 2026
Abstract
This study uses a fixed-effects regression model (FEM) with a dataset of 10 countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) from January 22, 2020 to May 22, 2022, provided by OxCGRT, to evaluate the effectiveness of ASEAN countries' response policies on controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. Some statistically significant findings include: (1) the government's overall response to the pandemic effectively controls the growth rate of infections and deaths; (2) economic support policies help reduce the growth rate of infections and deaths; and (3) prevention and lockdown policies affecting human behavior, together with media campaigns, do not help ASEAN countries control the growth rate of infections and deaths. The study's findings provide a scientific basis for managers and policymakers in formulating policies to control the COVID-19 pandemic.
