Attracting FDI in the context of the implementation of the CPTPP and the EVFTA

Vietnam has actively participated in negotiating and signing bilateral and multilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Up to now, Vietnam has officially joined, signed and implemented 15 FTAs, and the country is negotiating two FTAs. The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) are considered the most prominent FTAs for Vietnam. These two FTAs have new regulations on trade and investment compared to previous FTAs that Vietnam is participating in. They create both new opportunities and challenges for Vietnam to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). This paper discusses Vietnam's FDI attraction in the context of implementing the CPTPP and the EVFTA.
