Challenges Facing Vietnam’s Exports in the New Context

Over the past years, Vietnam's exports have consistently maintained double-digit growth and have become one of the key drivers of the country's economic development. However, since the beginning of 2022, the global economy has faced unprecedented uncertainties, including the Russia–Ukraine conflict, the spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, and various policy responses adopted by governments worldwide. These developments have slowed global economic growth and posed significant challenges to Vietnam’s export targets for 2022 and the years ahead. Based on an analysis of the internal conditions of Vietnam’s export sector during the 2016–2021 period, together with major domestic and international developments in 2022, this paper identifies the principal challenges facing Vietnam’s exports and proposes several measures to help the country’s export sector overcome these challenges.
