Advancing agricultural cooperatives in Can Tho City: Solutions aligned with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW

This study evaluates the current status and proposes strategic solutions for the development of agricultural cooperatives in Can Tho City, aligned with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on scientific and technological breakthroughs, innovation, and national digital transformation. Data were collected from two sources: (i) secondary data provided by the Department of Rural Development and Forestry of Can Tho City covering 642 agricultural cooperatives, and (ii) a primary survey of 35 cooperatives conducted within the framework of the GIC Project in Soc Trang, Can Tho, and Hau Giang provinces. The analysis employs a sustainable livelihood framework encompassing five resource groups: natural, human, social, physical, and financial capital. Findings indicate that cooperatives in Can Tho possess strengths in land resources and community linkages but face significant limitations in management capacity, technological adoption, post-harvest infrastructure, financial capital, and the level of digital transformation. To foster sustainable development, the study proposes several solution groups, including enhancing the application of technology and digital platforms; strengthening management capacity and attracting young human resources; promoting value-chain linkages; improving credit policies and support funds; and developing circular agricultural models and emission-reduction initiatives aligned with the development strategy of the Mekong Delta.
