Green banking: Trends, challenges and development prospects

Abstract

Green banking has emerged as a significant trend in the financial sector, aiming to support sustainable development while reducing environmental impacts. This study explores the concept of green banking, examines global implementation models, and analyzes both the benefits and challenges associated with its adoption in Vietnam. Key advantages of green banking include the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, promotion of sustainable economic growth, and strengthening of financial system resilience. Despite these benefits, Vietnam faces several obstacles to implementation, such as an underdeveloped legal framework, financial risks, and limited awareness among businesses. Based on these findings, the study proposes solutions to advance green banking in Vietnam, including policy enhancement, increased international cooperation, and the integration of digital technologies.
