Industrialization and urbanization: lessons learned from Europe

Abstract
Industrialization and urbanization have profoundly shaped European history, transitioning many nations from agrarian societies into global economic powers. Beginning in the late 18th century and gaining momentum throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, these processes brought transformative changes to economic structures, social organization, and environmental conditions. While driving unparalleled economic growth and technological advancements, industrialization and urbanization also led to substantial environmental challenges that persist today. This study explores Europe’s experiences with industrialization and urbanization, drawing valuable lessons and insights applicable to Vietnam’s development trajectory.
