Digital transformation in Vietnam’s livestock industry: opportunities, challenges and solutions for sustainable development

Digital transformation has emerged as an inevitable trend in Vietnam’s agricultural sector, particularly in livestock farming. It is recognized as a strategic driver for improving productivity, optimizing management, and enhancing supply chain value while addressing challenges posed by international integration and climate change. Despite its potential, the digital transformation process faces significant obstacles, including high investment costs, a lack of skilled human resources, uneven stakeholder awareness, an incomplete legal framework, difficulties in establishing large-scale databases, and challenges related to disease management and market dynamics. This study examines these barriers and proposes practical solutions, such as state and international financial support, specialized workforce training, public awareness campaigns, legal system enhancements, the development of integrated and secure big data systems, and the application of advanced technologies like IoT, AI, and blockchain to drive sustainable transformation in the livestock sector.
