Inland container depots (ICD): successful models from Southeast Asia and directions for Vietnam PhD. Nhan Cam Tri

Abstract

This study employs a qualitative research approach, leveraging secondary data to analyze the inland clearance depot (ICD) systems in selected Southeast Asian countries. The study examines the deployment and development of ICD systems in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The findings reveal that the ICD systems in ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines exhibit significant advantages over Vietnam’s system, particularly in terms of uniform ICD distribution and integration with transportation networks. Based on these insights, the study proposes strategic directions for Vietnam to strengthen its ICD infrastructure, laying a robust foundation for the growth of its logistics and import-export sectors.
