Facilitating occupational transitions for coastal fishermen in Nha Trang City: Policy recommendations

Abstract
This study delves into the occupational transition challenges faced by coastal fishermen in Nha Trang City, where the fishing industry plays a vital role. Despite its economic significance, the sector is under pressure due to resource depletion and climate change. Through in-depth interviews with 30 fishermen, 15 business owners, and 15 policymakers, and surveys with 50 fishermen, the study reveals that fishermen struggle to transition to new occupations due to limited skills, market knowledge, and capital. To address these challenges, policymakers must implement tailored vocational training programs, financial assistance, and enhanced market information. By understanding the current situation and offering specific policy recommendations, this study contributes to sustainable fisheries management and the well-being of coastal communities.
