Building an optimized model for a logistics network of collecting and recycling medical waste in Can Tho

Abstract

Medical waste refers to waste generated from healthcare facilities, including hazardous medical waste, regular solid waste, emissions, non-hazardous liquid waste, and medical wastewater. If medical waste is not properly classified, collected, and treated, it will become a source of disease transmission and pose serious threats to the environment and human health. Additionally, the processes of sorting, collecting, and treating medical waste need to be efficient to reduce costs while also leveraging raw materials from the waste. This study presented an optimization model aimed at minimizing the costs of waste collection and treatment while optimizing the efficiency of the reverse logistics network. The model uses linear functions to represent the cost problem, with the decision variable being the volume of medical waste to be processed and the objective function being the total costs associated with the collection, management, transportation, and treatment of medical waste.
