The impact of Buddhist economists on Vietnam’s economic development

Abstract

Since Vietnam was completely reunified in 1975, Buddhism has had more favorable conditions for development and has had a deeper influence on the people's spiritual and material lives. The socialist-oriented market economy of Vietnam has achieved many important achievements; labor productivity has increased, and people's material lives have improved. However, some people have committed illegal acts that affect the interests of other individuals, the community, and the country, to gain profits. Buddhism, with its humanistic ideas, has guided people to do economic activities in a sustainable direction. Buddhist activities also make an important contribution to economic, environmental, and social development. This paper clarifies how Buddhist thought has contributed to economic development in Vietnam.
