The impact of taxes on economic growth: evidence from ASEAN countries

Abstract

This study examined the impact of taxes on economic growth in Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN) from 2003 to 2023. The study used the estimation methods of OLS, FEM, REM, and GLS to analyze panel data. The study’s empirical results showed that taxes have a positive impact on the economic growth of ASEAN countries, with a significance level of 5%. Besides, factors such as inflation and unemployment also have a significant impact on economic growth. Based on the study's findings, the study proposed some suggestions for the tax policies of ASEAN countries.
