Developing green credit from a perspective of the strategic orientation of Vietnam’s four largest banks

Abstract
To realize the commitment regarding net zero emissions by 2050 at the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26), Vietnam has implemented policies and plans to promote the development of green credit activity, an important capital mobilization channel for business projects that aim at environmental protection and sustainable development. This study evaluated the development of green credit in Vietnam through the strategic orientation and results of the four largest Vietnamese banks, including the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank), the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV), the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank), and the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank). This study also pointed out some barriers to developing green credit in Vietnam and made some recommendations to develop this activity.
