FOREIGN EXCHANGE RESERVE ADEQUACY - THEORY AND PRACTICE IN VIETNAM

Abstract

In this study, methods that are used to determine the foreign exchange reserve adequacy were employed to assess the current foreign exchange reserves of Vietnam. According to traditional methods, Vietnam's reserves in the last 5 years were within the optimal threshold. However, based on the ARA - EM method recommended by the International Monetary Fund, Vietnam's reserves in 2022-2023 were still below the standard. This situation requires the Government and the State Bank of Vietnam to continue to synchronously implement policies to encourage foreign exchange inflows to continue increasing the national foreign exchange reserve.
