Efficiency analysis of production inputs for the offshore gillnet fishery in Khanh Hoa province

Abstract

In this study, a two-phase DEA model was applied to calculate and analyze the efficiency of production inputs for offshore gillnet fishing in Khanh Hoa province in the 2021 – 2022 marketing year. The study’s results showed that the efficiency of the most important production inputs including engine power, working days on the sea, and fuel is 79.4%, 82.7%, and 83.4%, respectively. In addition, the size of the gillnet fleet has a negative impact on the efficiency of production inputs. Fishing vessels with large engine capacity (over 400 CV) receive the most support from the government. However, their efficiency of production inputs is the lowest, with 64.8% for engine power, 72.1% for working days, and 73.1% for fuel. It suggests that the development of offshore fisheries with large-capacity fishing vessels should be accompanied by the development of human resources in fisheries and resource surveys.
