A study on the impact of green credit policy on the financial performance of Vietnamese commercial banks
Published: July 26, 2026
Abstract
This empirical study applies a difference-in-differences (DID) model with a time lag to measure the impact of green credit policy on the financial performance of Vietnamese commercial banks during the period 2014 - 2024. The results indicate that, three years after its implementation, the green credit policy has had a significant effect on financial performance - measured by indicators such as Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Net Interest Margin (NIM) of commercial banks - whereas no significant impact is observed in the first and second years. Based on these findings, the study proposes several policy recommendations to promote the potential of green credit in improving the financial performance.
