An analysis of microcredit activities in Vietnam: Current status and solutions for enhancement

Abstract

Microcredit (MC), a core component of microfinance, targets low-income and poor individuals who lack access to formal financial institutions. Its primary objective is to empower borrowers to engage in productive activities, create employment, and lift themselves out of poverty. In Vietnam, while microfinance organizations have made notable contributions, challenges remain in areas such as institutional organization, loan disbursement, and providing effective guidance for fund management and utilization. This study provides an overview of microcredit and examines the current landscape of microfinance activities in Vietnam. Based on the analysis, it proposes several practical solutions to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of microcredit initiatives in the country.
