Vietnam’s food industry in the era of Industry 4.0

This study examines the transformation of the Vietnamese food industry in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0). As a key sector contributing to food safety, product diversification, and economic growth, particularly in an agriculture-based economy like Vietnam, food technology plays a pivotal role. In the era of digitalization, the industry must adapt to emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and big data to optimize production, enhance supply chain management, and deliver personalized nutrition solutions. While several enterprises have successfully integrated Industry 4.0 technologies into their operations, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) continue to face challenges related to limited capital, inadequate infrastructure, a shortage of high-tech human resources, and high investment costs. The Vietnamese government has introduced supportive policies to facilitate digital transformation in the food industry, aiming to bridge these gaps and foster innovation-driven growth
