Experiences of forest carbon market development in leading countries: Lessons for Vietnam

Abstract

This study examines the experiences of forest carbon market development in several leading countries, drawing lessons for Vietnam. The research data was collected and analyzed from policies and relevant documents of three exemplary forest carbon markets in the region and globally, including Indonesia, China, and Brazil. The study also highlights the importance of collaboration among stakeholders and the refinement of management policies. Based on these results, the study proposes several lessons for Vietnam in developing the forest carbon market, including: building a transparent system for registration, measurement, and monitoring; applying advanced technology in forest carbon measurement; establishing a comprehensive and detailed process for developing forest carbon credit projects; fostering collaboration among stakeholders; and completing the legal framework.
