The impact of RCEP on Vietnam's footwear exports to member countries: An empirical analysis

Abstract
This study examines the impact of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) on Vietnam’s footwear exports to its 15 member countries over the period 2015 - 2023, utilizing a gravity model with panel data analysis. The findings reveal that factors such as average GDP, income disparity, and RCEP membership positively influence export performance. In contrast, exchange rate volatility and trade openness negatively affect export volumes. Meanwhile, foreign direct investment (FDI) and raw material imports do not exhibit statistically significant impacts. Based on these results, the study offers policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of Vietnam's footwear industry, optimizing the benefits of RCEP, and enhancing resilience in the face of regional trade dynamics.
