The impact of trade credit period on the profitability of listed construction materials companies in Vietnam

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of trade credit period on the profitability of 31 Vietnamese construction material companies listed on the stock exchange during the period 2010 - 2023. The empirical results reveal a significant negative relationship between the length of the trade credit period and firm profitability, indicating that longer trade credit terms are associated with reduced financial performance. This relationship is monotonic and becomes more pronounced during the COVID-19 economic downturn. The findings underscore the importance of prudent trade credit management as a key strategy to minimize credit risk and sustain long-term profitability in the construction materials sector.
