The impact of the information and communication technology system development on the Banking system’s stability

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of information and communication technology system development on the financial stability of banking operations by analyzing the panel data of the banking system of Vietnam, a new emerging economy, from 2010 to 2020. The development of information and communication technology systems poses many challenges to the banking system’s financial stability. By using the SGMM method, the study finds that spending and investment in information technology are positively correlated with the stability of banks, especially larger banks. The study proposes some governance and macroeconomic management policies to enhance the stability of commercial banks.
