Published: July 22, 2026
Abstract
The role of women in developing community-based tourism is receiving attention as a critical issue in the sustainable development of local tourism destinations. Results from in-depth interviews with 25 respondents in two typical communities of Thua Thien Hue province, namely Thanh Toan and Thuy Bieu, show that women increasingly have more opportunities and actively express their roles in tourism development. It is reflected in their different levels of participation in three aspects: implementation, decision-making, and benefit-sharing from tourism activities. The study made several recommendations to improve women's competencies and promote their empowerment while participating in local community-based tourism.
