Sustainable tourism development in An Giang Province: Current situation and solutions

This study analyzes the current state of sustainable tourism development in An Giang Province based on four pillars: economic, social, environmental, and governance. Using qualitative research methods and secondary data from local authorities, the study finds that tourism in An Giang has achieved significant growth in visitor numbers, revenue, and investment attraction, with Phu Quoc serving as the central hub. However, development remains largely extensive and reveals several limitations, including spatial imbalance, limited product diversification, low-quality human resources, environmental concerns, and the need to strengthen the role of public governance. Based on these findings, the study proposes a set of policy recommendations to promote sustainable tourism development, including improving governance effectiveness, adjusting spatial planning, diversifying tourism products, developing human resources, enhancing environmental protection, and strengthening regional linkages. The findings provide a scientific basis for policymaking in tourism development in An Giang Province.
