Women’s role in community-based tourism development: A case study of Dong Ho painting village, Bac Ninh province
Published: July 5, 2026
Abstract
This study examines the extent and role of women’s participation in community-based tourism development in Dong Ho Painting Village, Bac Ninh Province, using survey data from 100 respondents. The findings indicate that women’s participation remains relatively limited, with only 28% actively engaged, primarily in tourism-related service activities. Although women demonstrate a comparatively high degree of empowerment within the household, particularly in economic decision-making, their influence in broader social and community affairs remains constrained. The study also reveals that women place greater emphasis on cultural preservation and environmental protection, reflecting a strong orientation toward sustainable tourism development. These findings provide empirical evidence on the gender dimensions of community-based tourism and contribute to a deeper understanding of women’s role in promoting inclusive and sustainable local development
