Application of remedial measures to illegal deforestation: Practice in Lam Dong Province

Illegal deforestation causes serious damage to forest resources, ecosystems, and sustainable development. This study analyzes legal provisions on remedial measures for illegal deforestation and assesses their implementation in Lam Dong Province. The findings show that measures requiring offenders to replant forests or pay reforestation costs have been applied in numerous cases, contributing to the restoration of damaged forest areas. However, several practical challenges remain, including identifying responsible parties and funding sources for restoration when offenders cannot be identified; selecting appropriate restoration methods; determining implementation timelines; and inspecting and monitoring restoration outcomes after reforestation. Based on these findings, the study proposes solutions to improve criteria for selecting forest restoration methods, distinguish the deadline for replanting from the subsequent monitoring period, clarify the financial resources and responsibilities of relevant parties, and strengthen the application of technology in monitoring and evaluating forest restoration outcomes.
