Risk control in secured transactions involving carbon credits under the laws of selected countries: Lessons for Vietnam
Published: October 16, 2026
Abstract
As carbon markets continue to develop, the use of carbon credits as collateral creates opportunities to unlock asset value in credit activities while also giving rise to significant legal risks. This study examines the laws and practices of Sweden, China, and Singapore concerning the legal status, registration, valuation, and enforcement of carbon credits used as collateral. Based on a comparative analysis, the study identifies the legal issues facing Vietnam and proposes measures to improve the legal framework for risk control and establish a sound basis for the use of carbon credits in credit transactions.
