Factors affecting local communities’ intention to participate in tourism value co-creation at the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex

Abstract

This study integrates Social Exchange Theory, the Value-Attitude-Behavior model, and the Theory of Planned Behavior to examine local residents’ intention to participate in tourism value co-creation at the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex. Data from 351 valid questionnaires were analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results show that perceived economic benefits positively affect both attitude and participation intention, while perceived socio-cultural benefits positively influence attitude but have no direct effect on intention. Perceived negative impacts of tourism development do not directly affect participation intention. Attitude positively influences intention and plays an important mediating role between perception-related factors and behavioral intention. The findings provide managerial implications for strengthening local community participation in tourism value co-creation and supporting the sustainable development of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex.
