Factors influencing students’ intention to choose international joint programs: A proposed research model at Ho Chi Minh University of Banking
Published: August 14, 2026
Abstract
This study reviews and synthesizes empirical evidence from Vietnam and other Asian countries on factors influencing students’ intention to choose international joint programs. Drawing on three studies conducted in Vietnam and comparable research from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and China, the paper proposes a six-factor model comprising the reputation of the international partner university, tuition fees and financial support, career expectations, academic programs and facilities, information resources, and family and reference-group influences. The model is designed for subsequent empirical testing at the Saigon International School of Business, Ho Chi Minh University of Banking. The proposed framework provides a theoretical basis for identifying key determinants of students’ program choices and can support the development of more effective recruitment and communication strategies in an increasingly competitive international higher education market.
