Abstract
In the context of digital transformation and the rapid expansion of digital health applications, gamification has emerged as an effective strategy for promoting physical activity behaviors. In Vietnam, recreational running and community-based sports movements have gained significant traction, particularly among Generation Z - a cohort characterized by high levels of technological engagement. This paper employs a desk research approach combined with a systematic literature review to examine trends in the application of gamification within digital sports platforms and to elucidate the mechanisms through which game design elements, such as points, badges, leaderboards, and challenges, influence exercise motivation. The findings demonstrate that gamification not only enhances user engagement but also supports the sustained adoption of long-term physical activity behaviors. Overall, the study provides evidence-based insights with practical relevance for businesses and developers of sports applications in Vietnam.
