Explaining smart home technology adoption among young consumers in Ho Chi Minh City: An extended UTAUT perspective

Abstract

This study examines the factors influencing the adoption behavior of smart home devices among young consumers in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, by applying an extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) that incorporates personal innovativeness, grounded in innovation diffusion theory. Drawing on a synthesis of prior empirical studies and qualitative research methods, the study develops a research model comprising key constructs, including performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, and personal innovativeness, all of which are hypothesized to affect actual usage behavior. The proposed framework contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of technology adoption dynamics among young consumers in an emerging urban market.
