An overview of factors influencing technology system adoption in university digital transformation

Abstract

Digital transformation is increasingly adopted in higher education to enhance administrative efficiency and teaching quality, yet its effectiveness largely depends on user acceptance. This review examines the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT and UTAUT2), and the Technology - Organization - Environment (TOE) framework, synthesizing empirical studies conducted in higher education contexts. The findings identify perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social influence, facilitating conditions, and organizational factors as key determinants of technology use intention and behavior. The review also reveals research gaps, particularly the limited integration of multilevel analytical models and insufficient attention to actual usage behavior. Overall, the study contributes to a deeper understanding of technology adoption in higher education and provides insights relevant to advancing digital transformation in Vietnamese universities.
