Financing models for the electrification of public bus systems in major Vietnamese cities

Abstract

This study examines the current state of financing for the electrification of public bus systems in major Vietnamese cities and evaluates the financial conditions shaping the viability of electric bus deployment. Drawing on both international and domestic experiences, the research analyzes key determinants influencing investment feasibility, including cost structures, funding mechanisms, and policy environments. The findings provide a comprehensive assessment of existing financing practices and their limitations within the Vietnamese context. The study thereby offers a structured analytical basis for understanding how alternative financing models can support the transition to electric public transport systems and contribute to broader goals of energy transition and sustainable urban mobility.
