Human resource management in Vietnam's logistics industry: Current situation and solutions

Abstract

Along with the strong development of science and technology and the globalization, logistics activities from production to consumption play an increasingly important role in the competitiveness of manufacturing and service companies in particular and the whole economy in general. Vietnam is one of four Southeast Asian countries with great potential to develop both infrastructure and logistics systems. An action plan to improve competitiveness and develop logistics services with a vision to 2025 has been launched in Vietnam and it shows that the Government of Vietnam has paid attention to the development of logistics industry. Human resource is viewed as one of the most difficult problems for the logistics industry as Vietnam's human resource in logistics are not only insufficient in quantity but also weak in quality. This paper studies the current situation of human resource of Vietnam’s logistics industry. The paper analyzes the causes of logistics human resource’s weakness in Vietnam. The paper also proposes some solutions to develop human resource for Vietnam’s logistics industry in order to improve the competitiveness of Vietnam's logistics in the global service chain.
