Analyzing the impacts of saltwater intrusion on the income from farming of households in Vinh Long province

Abstract

This study analyzes the impacts of saltwater intrusion on the income from farming of households in Vinh Long province. The study surveys 250 fruit-growing farmers in Vinh Long province affected by the saltwater intrusion in 2020. The study interviews farmers and relevant local authorities to assess the saltwater intrusion in 2020. The study finds out that the saltwater intrusion had affected the income of farmers growing durian and rambutan trees which are high-value specialties of Vinh Long province. Based on the study’s results, some solutions are proposed to improve the initiative of farmers against the saltwater intrusion and strengthen the coordination of local authorities to minimize the impact of saltwater intrusion on crop production.
