Impacts of the rural urbanization on the livelihoods of people living in peri-urban areas

The agricultural sector plays an important role in Vietnam and the development of agricultural sector, rural areas and farmers is always concerned by the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Government of Vietnam. The process of rural urbanization, especially in peri-urban areas, significantly changes the countryside and improves the material and spiritual life of farmers. However, along with the process of rural urbanization, the issue of ensuring the livelihood of rural farmers in the process of urbanization plays an extremely important role. This paper analyzes some impacts of urbanization on the livelihoods of communities living in peri-urban areas in the process of urbanization through the case of Dinh Xuyen commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi. This paper also provides solutions to ensure sustainable livelihoods for peri-urban communities under the urbanization process’ impacts in the context of the country’s integration and development process.
