Factors affecting the decision of farming households to participate in agritourism activities: Case study of farming households in the Mekong Delta

Abstract

Agritourism creates job opportunities for farming household members. It also promotes the diversification of farm activities, income sources and reduce the dependence on nature of farming households. In this study, 450 farming households in the Mekong Delta were directly surveyed and the Binary logistic regression method was used. The study finds out major factors affecting the decision of farming households in the Mekong Delta to take part into agritourism activities. These factors are Support policy of local government; Participation in farmer associations, and unions; Perceived benefits; Various farming models; Internet access; Education level; Participation in tourism associations and organizations; Distance from farms to the nearest commercial center; Income; and Age of the head of household.
