A research model of factors influencing English learning motivation among university students in Ho Chi Minh City

Abstract

Learning motivation is a crucial determinant of students’ success in acquiring knowledge. This study presents the theoretical foundations and a review of existing research to develop a conceptual model of factors influencing students’ motivation to learn foreign languages. The proposed model comprises one dependent variable, students’ motivation to learn English, and eight independent variables: interest, learning orientation, personal characteristics, teaching quality, lecturers, learning environment, learning conditions, and technology. This study provides a scientific basis for future empirical testing of the model and offers practical insights for educational institutions to design effective teaching programs and learning environments that enhance motivation and prepare students for international integration.
