Assessing training program effectiveness in enterprises: A 7-level model framework

Abstract

Evaluating training effectiveness is essential for ensuring the quality and impact of training programs within organizations. FreeBit Company utilizes the 7-level model, an extension of the Kirkpatrick and Jack Phillips framework, to assess training outcomes. This model evaluates training across seven dimensions: (1) reaction, (2) learning, (3) behavior, (4) results, (5) return on investment (ROI), (6) intangibles, and (7) dialogue. This study explores the theoretical foundation and practical application of the 7-level model by reviewing content analysis, thematic analysis, and case study methodologies. It applies the model to assess a creative thinking skills training program conducted for employees of ABC Limited Liability Company (a pseudonym used for confidentiality). The findings underscore the model's value in providing a comprehensive evaluation of training effectiveness, from participant satisfaction to broader organizational impacts, such as enhanced work performance and employee engagement. The study offers practical implications and recommendations for Vietnamese businesses, emphasizing the potential of the 7-level model to optimize training programs, support human resource development strategies, and strengthen organizational competitiveness in a dynamic market environment.
